OS/2 Operating System

Intro

OS/2 was created by Microsoft as a successor to the Disk Operating System.

OS/2 version 1.0 was released in December 1987 as text-only mode, and contained an application programming interface for better usability. The GUI for the operating system was introduced on November 1988.

Version 1.2 of the OS/2 introduced the HPFS file system which improved upon the existing FAT file system. OS/2 Version 2.0 was released in April 1992, and provided a GUI called Workplace Shell with a 32-bit API. In 1994, Version 3.0 was released and became known as the infamous "OS/2 Warp". The update Warp 4 added Java capabilities and improved internet utilities.
