When you think "hardware", you think of the physical, tangible aspects of the computer - the items you can touch – the components made of matter, as opposed to software, which is virtual and not hands-on. The hardware is what makes a computer exist, makes it physical, makes it tangible. The hardware allows the computer to think and make calculations as well as display results and images that can be interpreted as useful data. The hardware also allows a computer to communicate with other computer right next to it or around the world as well as hold large quantities of data in an area the size of a quarter and turn the virtual data into tangible items through the use of printers. This section describes the evolution of different components of computer hardware all the way from the very first behemoths to modern-day micromachines. Hopefully this section will give the sense of importance as to how the hardware makes the computer, antique or modern, exist.
