EIES: The Electronic Information Exchange System
at the New Jersey Institute of Technology

From the mid-70's to the mid-90's, EIES (Hosted in Newark, NJ) was not only a ubiquitous name within the US boundaries, but throughout the international community as well.

In 1974, Murray Turoff approached NJIT with a proposal for developing an "Electronic Information Exchange" funded on a grant by the National Science Foundation. This led to the formation of the Computerized Conferencing and Communications Center at NJIT.

Many of the accomplishments achieved on EIES have been given proper credit throughout the decades. Some functionalities have yet to be duplicated today! The EIES era is unique within the technology age, and it is unfortunate that history has blurred this reality so much. The section is intended to correct this, by detailing the systems as well as impacts of the differing features and components.
