Intro

Conferences are common writing spaces for group interaction. Conferences on EIES take the form of a Sequential hierarchy following a keyword index. Isn't that a mouthful? Well, conferences were numbers as they appeared in time: so comment 9 in conference 111 would be read as C111CC9, incremented by one would be C111CC10, and so forth.
Notebooks: Notebooks are special composition areas for the user to record programming data, journal entires, etc. Unique within history, nothing of modern times comes close to the extensibility of notebooks.
Pen Names and Anonymous Posting: This is one of the more unique features of EIES. Simply enough, every user had the ability to assume a "pen name" for when they wished to say something that they did not want to be recognized for. This is useful in such areas as the "Virtual Classroom (TM)", in which sensitive topics are discussed. Anonymous ownership is also allowed, so ideas can be related to without feedback, if that is what was desired.
The Scratch Pad: The place in which one can compose material and can utilize a number of special commands to aid in editing text. The scratchpad had available ninety-nine lines but only the first 57 could be sent as a message or used for a comment. When entering text, lines are presented in numeric order as they are filled in by the user.
